THE BEST 5 TIPS FOR NOVEMBER IN BERLIN

Berlin in November has a very special atmosphere: the city glows with a warm glow and cultural highlights are waiting to be discovered everywhere. With the first festive markets, impressive light installations and celebrations steeped in history, Berlin shows its pre-winter, versatile side.

But here they are, the top tips for November 2024:

1. 35 YEARS SINCE THE FALL OF THE WALL

To mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Wall on November 9, 2024, Berlin will once again become a history platform. Around November 8 and 9, the peaceful revolution will be commemorated along the former course of the Wall – with special commemorative posters and events that convey history in a lively and interactive way. A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Berlin’s turbulent past and experience this once-in-a-lifetime event, as a huge open-air exhibition with messages designed by people from all over the city will extend throughout Berlin along the former border of the Wall under the motto “Hold freedom high”.

2. THE FIRST CHRISTMAS MARKETS OPEN

The Christmas spirit starts in November: the first Christmas markets, such as those at Potsdamer Platz and in Lichtenberg, open on November 1 with twinkling lights and delicious treats. The famous Christmas market follows on November 27, this year for the last time on Bebelplatz, while Gendarmenmarkt completes its renovation.

3. REOPENING OF THE ST. HEDWIGS CATHEDRAL

After extensive renovations, St. Hedwig’s Cathedral on Bebelplatz will reopen its doors on November 24. Exciting guided tours and special events such as the “Night of the Open Cathedral” offer you the opportunity to experience the redesigned space and the impressive architecture. The special thing about St. Hedwig’s Cathedral is that it was the first Catholic church to be built in Protestant Berlin with the royal permission of Frederick the Great. The circular building, inspired by the Pantheon, was intended as a gesture of respect to the Catholic Silesians in Berlin.

The “Christmas Garden” invites you to take an evening stroll through dreamy light installations and imaginative scenes such as starry forests and 3D figures. You can admire over a million lights on the approximately one and a half kilometer long circular route and enjoy the contemplative atmosphere. Culinary offerings and interactive installations such as the “Glowworm Garden” and selfie spots round off the visit – perfect for a magical pre-Christmas evening!

5. REOPENING OF THE NEUKÖLLN ICE STADIUM

After two years of renovation, the Neukölln ice rink will reopen its doors in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Sportpark just in time for the winter season on November 2, 2024. A ticket for one ice rink time will then cost 4 euros (concessions 2 euros), and a season ticket will be available for 100 euros (concessions 30 euros). Skates can be rented for between 3.50 and 8 euros, depending on the duration of the rental.
